IH 340 utility hydraulics

I"m not sure if the hydraulics system is set up correctly on this tractor. When it is started, it starts easier when I lift the loader. It acts like it is fighting itself and when the loader is lifted it eases the strain. It has a cam driven hydraulic pump and 3 control valves by the shifter. The loader valve (the middle one) is "pinned" in and the bucket and 2-pt hitch (the two outer valves) are "pinned" out. Is this correct? The hydraulic lines get so hot that they will literally burn you. I know that it getting hot is not right and it seems like it isn"t right that the engine is so strained when just idling until you actuate one of the hydraulic functions which causes it to run better. I don"t want to use it like this for fear of causing damage but I need HELP! I need some direction on what to do to try to track down the problem. HELP ME PLEASE?
