Tractor Talk Discussion Board

advice needed on my home computer

I know this isn't a real tractor question but Y.T. seems to have so many guys that are helpful I thought I'd try here. My home computer is hooked up to my telephone line. I can establish a hookup with the server OK, but soon after, I get disconnected and I go through the process of another hookup. This goes on and on and on. It seems that over a period of time, the problem gets slightly better and eventually, I seem to stay of almost all the time (say after 40 minutes) without too many disconnects after that. Over this first 40 minutes, the time that I stay on seems to gradually increase. It's sort of like a stalling tractor which stalls less the more you drive it, but still eventually stalls again. My net hookup company says they are not to blame. Sounds like I'm the only guy in history who has ever had this problem. They say it's my MODEM (which is probably like some sort of a Marvel carburetor part). Any suggestions on a fix? Of course they are willing to look at it if I bring it in but they'll probably soak me. Also, it was working fine at my son-in-laws house before (he got a new one and gave this one to me). Help!!!
