Zeke All the suggestions are good. Your ISP can be very helpful, if they don't sell hardware or software they are probably just willing to help. I would trust my local folks, I know I am very fortunate to deal with a local mom and pop operation. With all the trouble I've had, (due mostly to my experimenting, and a few lightening strikes!!!) I've learned to check all my settings ((Win 95/98) they are hidden in all corners of the system it seems). I do this first if I have an abnormal problem connecting. Early on I used a "screen print utility" to print all my internet settings (dialog boxes/windows) for reference. Another possibility is congestion, not in your throat, on the www. Different hours of the day or evening (some days) I cannot get connected or am hung-up on, or data transfer will be reeeeaaaal slow. This is due to congestion at some point down the line. If you always try connecting at the same time try a different time like 4 AM or 11 PM to see if thats the culprit.
