I recently replaced my battery and upon starting the ammeter registered all the way to discharge. The system had been converted from 6V to 12V when I purchased the tractor. I have ended up replacing all of the wiring, points, condenser, plugs, coil, and the ballast resistor. The wiring was in bad shape and I discovered my ground was bad. I had hoped this would correct the problem of the ammeter registering discharge. I am confident it is wired in correctly (ie + & -) The alternator is a single pole with an internal regulator. I have had the alternator tested an they said it was working properly. It now starts just great but when I increase the rpm the ammeter jumps clear over to the discharge side. Any help on what could be causing this? I am suspicious that the regulator in the alternator really is not working as it should.
