This has been the mildest winter I can recall in awhile, '09 was colder, low on snow accumulation, '10-'11 classic long winter with lots of snow, and consistent cold temperatures from recent memory.
Yesterday, biting insects were out, be it gnats, or whatever the various small black insects actually are, surprisingly, I got nailed several times by mosquitoes, which is just a bit early. Funny, bites don't itch can't recall where I got hit, but they were zeroing in on me in the afternoon, usually its after dark if not a wet season.
Soil temps on my hill here are probably fine to plant now, though that frost could get you if things cooled off.
So last year we got hammered by winter, this year complete opposite, so does that mean next winter will be harsh LOL (based on the pattern).
I won't even get into global warning, the way I see it you get what you get when you get it.
