Most likely the splines on the pressure will fail first because there is less material to wear away. The hardness may be at a lower value as well.
However, if it comes to a stripped pressure plate spline, you will need a new IPTO driving gear and shaft. That is the peice you called the input gear.
The good news is that there are some eBay sellers that have that gear listed. They have it titled as a 460 part but I think it may be the same part as used on the 504. You will have to compare part numbers at CaseIH.com. Price should be around $100. Might be an 80% discount from an CaseIH dealer price.
