You said there is end play in the steering shaft that means the bearing is bad. I would tear the whold sector down and rebuild with new bushings,bearings and seals and gaskets refil with 90wt and you have new ssteering. I have rebuilt several the last few yrs with great results. I also use a calipers to check the rod ends to see how much egg-shaped they mite be and use a disc grinder to get them round again. You will like the end results.
