The steering in my Super A has excessive play; you can turn the steering wheel from about 10:30 to 2:00 without any movement of the front wheels. All of the play seems to be coming from the gear box. There doesn't seem to be any play in the tie rods at the tire end or at the other end of the tie rod where it fastens to the rod coming straight forward out of the steering box. When you turn the steering wheel the steering shaft has some fore and aft play. With the same movement from the steering wheel the arm coming straight forward out of the bottom of the gear box has some up and down play. I removed the steering shaft out the front of the gear box and everything looks good and feels tight. There is no play or slop in the bottom bearing. Any ideas where to look and what to do? Can one block up the front end and remove the gear box easily? Are there any adjustments that can be made inside of the gear box? Or shims to add or take out to take out the play? While I am asking, I am looking for a distillate manifold, heat shield, linkage or controls for the shutters, and the fuel switching valve. Any help on any of these problems will be greatly appreciated.
