Dutch, I bought this tractor at an auction, I didn,t realize the transmission case was broken where the left rear final drive bolts to. It was welded, but very poorly done,hunks of weld just fell out of the repaired area, thats why I changed the transmission case, who knows what had happen to this transmission, I know when I removed the cotter pin to remove the nut on the pinion shaft I could take it of with my fingers, it soposed to be torgued I think 70 ft.lbs. As for as anything binding no every thing turns real smooth, I am not really sure of what you mean by backlash readings, could you explain this to me. I just set the pinion & ring gear tooth contact, Thanks Dave F.
