These comments made only with the assumption that the cub carb is similar to the "updraft IH carb on the H." Otherwise, just disregard. Been there, done that - well, not with a cub, but close. First of all, if the float was operating properly, there would be "no reason" for a leak around the gasket, because the fuel does not rise to that level in the float chamber normally, does it? You never told us if the cub ran or not, - did it?? Unfortunately, the kits **don't have new floats in them**(extra about $20). Now, you have 3 guesses to what your problem is? It is likely that the float was full of gasoline from the start (the little float itself, not the chamber), and when they rebuilt the carb with the kit, they just put the old "gasoline leaking" one back in, after replacing the float valve only. Now you put the carb on, connect the gas line, and the float "won't shut off" cause it won't float and never will, if it's full of gas. Since it won't shut off, gasoline runs through the bottom of the float chamber, into the passage beneath, through the needle valve, up the main jet "well" and rises to the level in the chamber that gravity runs it out over the top of the main jet nozzle and into the venturi (cause the gas level in the float is higher than the top of the nozzle), drips down the intake, runs along the intake, and out the breather connection. It may also leak around the gasket if the gasoline level rises enough. None of that would happen if the float just cut off like it is supposed to (had same problem with my H). The center gasket is really more of an "air" gasket than a gasoline gasket, since under operation, there is always a negative pressure on that gasket. There is the possibility that the float is ok and it is hanging up on the sidewall of the float chamber in the down position and would cause the same problem(happened to me with my H), but that can be adjusted out I'm sure. I would consider removing and disassembling the carb, and if the float "sloshed" when I shook it, I would go see the rebuilder. I can't comment on the idea about smoothing the mating surfaces of the upper and lower carb bodies, and if it is really warped, suppose you will have to do something or get a new carb. You might be able to salvage this one. If the float is just hanging up, I can tell you how to solve that probably. RKS
