I haven't thought much about the function of a three point hitch. I have a JD 97 compact and I built a receiver for a trailer ball to be fitted to the 3 point. This is to be used to haul my boat/trailer a few hundred feet. There are hills. Here's the question...will the 3 point raise up when the weight of the boat transfers to the rear on a hill? Or...will the 3 point stay put and only raise up if I raise it with the lever. I have to cross a street and right away, there is a hill and the tractor will hit the hill before the boat thus shifting the weight off the ball/receiver and the 3 pt. Do I need to chain the 3 point down so it doesn't go up? I suppose I could go out to the barn and put a car jack under it and find out but it's blowing snow horizontally. I rather ask here from my laptop and recliner.
