I should have mentioned this earlier. MV's have significant value even if they need thousands of dollars in repairs. You shouldn't alter them. Sell it and go get a high-drum cotton picker for cheap bucks. Nobody thinks they are worth anything. It will be running backwards but the ring gear can be flipped, the shifting forks modified, and the lid already comes with a two hole shifter lid.
But I don't know what you have without several pictures or a serial number and detailed description. You may be calling it a MV but that doesn't mean you know what you are talking about, or your friends for that matter.
I also don't know what you want to do with this tractor. Are you looking for a reverse operation tractor to make a forklift or loader? We need info in order to suggest what needs to be done. You should also be posting on the Farmall board.
