Really this is our own fault and a microcasm of the economic situation we are in right now. People are vehemently against raising the prices of anything and everything, sometimes just out of principle. If costs of production and distribution go up (and they do) about the only recourse other than raising prices is to offer less and charge the same.
It really is the same as insurance costs. You may have a rate that hasn't increased in a while but only if the things it actually covers has decreased. There is no free lunch and everyone needs to eat.
