That's it, I'm not sure. Do you think it's likely to have been different? I've only had one look at the problem because I haven't taken delivery yet. One thing that gave me food for thought is that the pinion gear is totally stripped but the remains are cone shaped. It's stripped more where it would first engage. The ring gear only has the first half of the tooth depth gone. My first thought was that the starter was too far back and only just engaging. However the pinion gear is/was at least as wide as the ring gear and has obviously been engaging full depth. It's as though it's only just been engaging but each time it's taken a bit off and gone further in until there were no teeth left. Wouldn't the pitch would have to be really badly off for it not to fully engage?
