I would suggest talking to your Doctor to see who they believe is the best "knee man" in your area. Knees have become almost a specialty of their own, and lots of experience in looking at them is really in the patient's favor. A good specialist can tell you if you can get by with "scope surgery" to clean out the joint, or if you need more serious surgery.
My wife has had both knees totally replaced, and while it isn't perfect, she can now walk or sit still for long periods without knee pain. I have also talked to lots of other people who have had knee replacement, and almost all have said they wished they had done it 10 years sooner. My wife suffered through about 20 kneed surgeries over the years and LOTS of pain.
Supposedly there has been a lot of progress in the last few years and the new replacement knees work lots better than the older ones and last much longer. Hopefully, if you need to go that way, your surgeon will choose one of the later models. Good luck!
