After 7+/- years of putting up with my left Knee cause of multiple sprains (at at least thats what they felt like) I"m going to have it looked at tomarrow. I have an appointment with a orthopedic surgeon at 3. This also means that I have to quit my 5 year dipping habit. There probably going to scoop it so I might be on crunches and that means I can"t drive ANY of my tractors. Any of y"all had any experience with this and how long it takes before I can drive again?
Thanks for the advice, Alex.

It all depends on the surgeon. My experience with two replaced at different times, depends on the surgeon. Had one who was great the last should not have been a butcher. Ask question and get answers, First one I was milking cows in six weeks. The last one was five years ago and still no good. Last Doctor was baned from hospital.

If all they do is scope it, you"ll be up and going in a day or two.

Had my knee scoped after blowing the ACL. Scoping is an outpatient procedure. Went in in the morning, was home by late afternoon. Took one pain pill, more as a precaution, before bed.

Biggest regret - letting the dr. tell me I didn"t need to have the ACL repaired, huge mistake.

Had my right knee repaired by one of the best doctors in Dallas. Had me back up and walking in two months. When they give you the pain pill to take home. Take it trust me. I thought I was a tough guy didn't take the pill don't need it. Laid down to take a nap after getting home. Two hours later I was begging for any kind of pain killer. Also found at the time that I have bone cancer in both legs. That really sucks.

Had a bad knee (artheritis sp?) bout 25 years ago bout the same time as a heart attack. Fixed the heart, though I would just live with the knee for the couple of years that I had left. For 25 years now I have wished that I had fixed that daxx thing. Go do what ever needs to be done.

ALEX my fried I have had 2 knee operations one
knee was rebuilt and it was a bad operation it The DOC, told me I will have a new knee
when I came to BS. I had a exturnel fixater on it
not a new knee, The fixater is like a pices of pip
bolted to your leg and it needs to be tightend up 6 times a day, very very painful. Now the other knee was replaced the thing I could have ever done.
But your case may be different,are they going to do orthoscoptic surgary,{ JUST CLEANIG THE OINT'S OUT.}or knee replacment. All I want to say is,
Ask all the questions you can.
Ask the DOC. is this going to be knee replacment
Is this going to be orthoscoptic, or what.
But in the end after it is all over you will feel a lot better, BUT it will slow you down;
I know some of the big word's may not be spell'd
right but I am no DOC.God luck IF YOU WANT TO TALK DROP ME A LINE;

don't worry about it. With the miracles of modern medicine you will be recovered before you have had enough of a vacation. I had my shoulder scraped for calcium deposits, torn rotator cuff repaired, and shredded tendon removed, and back to work that afternoon. I also had double hernia repair and back to work the next morning.

I would suggest talking to your Doctor to see who they believe is the best "knee man" in your area. Knees have become almost a specialty of their own, and lots of experience in looking at them is really in the patient's favor. A good specialist can tell you if you can get by with "scope surgery" to clean out the joint, or if you need more serious surgery.

My wife has had both knees totally replaced, and while it isn't perfect, she can now walk or sit still for long periods without knee pain. I have also talked to lots of other people who have had knee replacement, and almost all have said they wished they had done it 10 years sooner. My wife suffered through about 20 kneed surgeries over the years and LOTS of pain.

Supposedly there has been a lot of progress in the last few years and the new replacement knees work lots better than the older ones and last much longer. Hopefully, if you need to go that way, your surgeon will choose one of the later models. Good luck!

Had my knee replaced 10 weeks ago. I'm moving pretty good at this point. I first injuried it 46 years ago. Waited to long to replace it.
Until you hear what the Doc says, it's hard to tell which way to go. The scope is very minor. Had 2 of them done. You will be up and going good in a week. Good luck with it.

Since it"s your left one, you"re welcome to use or adapt this hand clutch idea I came up with 10 years ago when I broke my ankle. Cost about $5 to make each one for three field tractors. Does not interfere with able-bodied drivers, attached firmly with four bolts. The way I built it, it transfers all force to the pedal, and does not come loose. It"s also in the AgrAbility files through midwest Land-Grant universities, along with other ideas for the handicapped.

I have had 2 knee operations and the Dr. wants to do replacement. I would recommend taking your time and do a lot of research. Along with like mentioned before get a NFL DR. Check for yourself, but I was told do not want to fall on knee replacements along with no knelling on them. So that means a big life style change; and I will deal with the pain. Good luck John
