My son-in-law has transmission problems in a 1999 Chevy S10 he just bought. 2.2 four-cylinder and 2WD with the 4L60E trans. So, he went to a junkyard and bought a 4L60E out of a 2001 Chevy Astrovan with the 4.3 V-6 (also 2WD).
Anybody know of any definite reason why the van trans won't work in the S10? As far as I know the engine bolt patterns are the same and the wire harness connectors look the same. Other then that, I don't have a clue. Seems the junkyards around here don't use the Hollander Interchange books anymore, and they couldn't tell him if it would fit or not.
I did check part #s from rebuild companines and they show totally different part numbers between the two vehicles.
I know that years back, 700R4s used with four-cylinder engines had a few less clutches then when used with bigger engines. Now, I have no idea. But, even if the van DID have more clutches, not sure what differecne it would make.
I'm ignorant on the matter, but hate to see this kid waste his time if this can't work.
