Remove the valve cover and watch the intake valve on #3 cylinder, in the normal direction of rotation turn the engine till #3 intake valve is closing then watch for the 8 deg. mark on the flywheel to line up with the roll pin in the bell housing opening. when it is, the lines in the pump window should be in perfect alignment. The failed ring in the pump is a possibility and you can verify that by removing the return line and fitting out of the top of the pump and trying to start it with the retun hole open. mEl


George, i did not remove the pump or any gears. What will be the out come once i remove return line, fitting and crank engine over? What should i be looking for once i do this?
