Guess that long road trip for the baler took it's toll. Was going to pick up the rake today and was going along just fine when smoke/steam started coming out the PCV tube. shut it right off and started looking. Was a couple qts low on oil when I was fine 2 days ago. Walked to the house and got oil to fill it. Cranked over a couple times and made kind of a squeek and the motor locked.
Upside, if there is one, is a kid in town is a certified AG mechanic and has an almost complete workshop/garage, don't have a girlfriend/wife, and likes to tinker. He just redone the same tractor last year, so was able to tell me about what the damage will be (real acceptable considering the price of another tractor). Said he'll make it new in 2 weeks or less. Been wanting to do it anyway, guess I just needed a jolt. He's even giving me a loaner tractor while he has mine.
If it's a light fix, he'll patch it up, if it's any more, he'll replace everything (pistons, cylinders, bearings, and have the head done. Should outlast me then.
