I stopped squirels from chewing through my feeders at our hunting lease in texas by wrapping hardware cloth (1/4" mesh) around all square edges. I would use 1/4" or even 1/8" mesh, cut in strips (it comes in several diferent widths), and make one wrap around the wiring harnes. I would use bailing wire twists to hold firm. Quick and easy fix.
