Been straight out planting fields with my farmer friend, 65 acres of oats was the total, and I forget exactly how much corn has gone in so far, might be 80-90 acres on that, think there's about 150 to go. Real dry around here and no shortage of work I've repaired the late model 637 JD disc, (think thats the model) 2x already, the outer disc rear gang snapped off the hub, rebuilt that with 7018, the base is still tweaked/bent, but it's just an extension, he should get a new part, too labor intense to straighten it, and one of the 1/2" thick mild steel angles that holds one side of the front gang at the lift cylinder, had to be welded up, almost tore right off, just had about 1"-2" to go, and it would have let loose and bought that cylinder. All of this is on the same side, someone hit something with it, like a darned tree or something as I've never seen 1/2" angle rip like that. The repair came out nice, though a new angle should be installed, that 7018 laid in nice, and is not likely to fail, just about gone through 10lbs. of electrode, and a tank of fuel in my miller nt 251 doing repairs for him. Been helpin out clearing/pushing back hedgerows, & other misc work on barter for tractor time with his 3150 w/loader, to gather up logs and firewood, went like heck today to stay ahead of the disc and planter, one load out, dropped a big leaner today, little too close for comfort as it bounced left in front of me, the one time I stayed a little closer than normal, dropping trees is some dangerous work. He gave me 1/2 an acre of hardwood, going to be cleared to expand a field, lot of wood there, might have to see what is mill grade etc. rest firewood. Widened a road for him at another farm where he rents 70 acres with a late model 450 JD dozer, got some seat time in, been 5 years, work came out really nice, you never forget those skills. Just too much work and not enough time to get it done, spring always is everything at once it seems, and boy am I just beat up after today, just had my evening cold one and a light dinner, plumb wore out.
