Must be that cold air that keeps dropping down. I'm a bit surprised at how consistently cold it was this year, we got the usual extremes, slightly below zero, week at a time, mostly teens and 20's, few years prior we had quite a few temperature swings, causing high winds, heavy downpours and other similar weather events. I can remember it was 70 in early January a few years ago, '05-'06 I was outside and marveled at the fact I could take a walk in Jan. around our place here in a t-shirt. We had a lot of warm air pushing up, then the usual weather events when the cold air came back, really crazy weather sometimes.
This year, the bottom dropped out in November and it's been consistently cold since, but I like that cold air coming in, same pattern we saw in the summer of '07, cold air/high pressure system if that is the correct way to describe it, where we got a lot of sunny dry days, rain every week or 2, perfect haying weather, be nice to see some of that again.
March can bring some heavy snow storms, most probably remember the one in '93, I spent a lot of time pulling people out of ditches with the old K-10 chevy and tow chain, down in NJ where I worked, also shuttled people home, that truck was great in deep snow.
