Around here (southern MN) the NH & JD balers bring double or more than any other baler brand of similar age. There sure seems to be a difference in knotters. Both JD & NH had superior knotters in the 50's & 60's. I hear a model 68 or newer NH; or a t-14 / t-24 JD is a pretty good baler for what you want to do. You may happen to get a pretty good one in other brands, but there IS a reason they are selling for scrap metal price....

Any of the siderakes will work for you, but if you have odd corners and road ditches & such to bale, the 2-wheel models are a LOT more manuverable & handy. However the old 4-wheel ones are $20 or so around here, & will rake your hay.

Live pto is a lot, lot nicer for running a baler. You can bale without live pto, but slugs (heavy spots in the windrow) will make you cuss & unplug the baler by hand a lot. It is possible to buy a baler with it's own engine, no pto needed from the tractor, but if you are starting from scratch, it's a lot nicer to only have to start & maintain one engine to bale...
