Look to the left of this webpage where it says "Research & Info." Click on Article Archives. You will see a good article on buying your first tractor.

There are many good choices. Even though you may be a good mechanic, getting one in good condition will still give you more time on the tractor than repairing it. Check around your area to see what is available.

A cub is a bit small for a post hole digger and brush hog. They are fine mowers though. 8N is a favorite of many folks as are the later Fords. Many farm tractors were made without 3pt hitches. Make sure that if you concider one of these, you get all the implements together with the tractor since they will be custom for just that model. A 3pt makes it much more versatile.

Once you are considering a particular model, come back and ask about it. You will get more info than is possible to give you up front.
