The description "wheatland" is a generic term for any solid axle tractor that cannot be adjustable to rowcrop spacings. Case had wheatland tractors and rowcrop tractors but not any that could do both until the gear drive 930 and 1030s appeared in the mid 60s. The rowcrop tractor was refered to as a General Purpose. The new wheatland was now refered to as a "Special" because the 1030 Special had the large fat tires, large full coverage fenders, heavy wide-swinging drawbar and the set back front axle of the old wheatland style tractor, but now these new Speacial tractors ALSO had adjustable axles, both front AND rear -- and an optional Category II, 3-point Draft-o-matic hitch. Excerpt from the Case catalog says...You've essentially two tractors in one - a topnotch producer for wheat and rice, with a fast switch for row crop work. A winning combination for "one crop" areas that are becoming more diversified!
