I have a 1720, so things likely will be different.....
Number one: BUY A MANUAL. They are pretty cheap from NH, can look them up & even order on-line if you want to. You NEED one.
My newer model the key is on the right, turn key backwards (top to you) and glow plug light comes on, wait 4-7 seconds, then turn key forward to start, release key. (My older bigger Fords the key positions are: off, acc, run, glowplug, start..... - extra notch in there for glowplug)
If your model is manual fuel pump, not electric, then there will be a knob (often red, but can be other colors) that pulls out/ pushes in. This is the fuel shut off switch. Diesels can run without any electricity, so turning the key off has no effect on manual fuel pump models. You need to shut the flow off with the slide knob. In is typically on, out is typically off.
Sounds like your battery is shot, buy a new one. Ford tractors use huge batteries, replace with what it needs. Might start in hot weather with smaller one, but when it is cold, you need the big one. Get the right one.
Could be bad connection or starter gone bad too tho, never 100% sure of the problem with so little info...... Me I clean the posts, hook up the 100 amp jump charger, see if that works, then can figure out where the problem is from there.
Remember - buy a manual.
Wait until you run out of fuel - no go until you bleed out the injector lines.... You need the manual to get through all these things.
