Black in the top is not necessarily an absolute. Remember the goo/goop. While the tractor is running is the only time the oil is getting in from the oil pressure pushing the oil in. The oil is getting mixed, by the water pump, thoroughly with the anti-freeze. If the junk in the tank has the correct amount of anti-freeze in it, it will not freeze since the contaminent is oil. Do not run the tractor with the radiator pressure cap tight. The pressure cap could force coolant back in the crankcase at shut down and THEN you would run risk of engine damage.
