Your discription of hard starting and running reminds of a Nissan 6 cylinder which had the valves timing off a tooth. The pump had been adjusted and timed with out any success. Finally I took the engine to the VoTech School and as they played the games and finally tore the top of the engine down checking as they proceeded the error was found. the Gear marks looked right but the valve timing was in error. The J.A.Pan Company had a Bad Gear. The orginal gear was marked on the wrong tooth but we did reinstall and the torque and starting was improved.
