When I was service manager at a Deere dealer in NE Ohio , we had a 410-B with the sideshift backhoe and straight up and down stabilizers in the shop..The technician was checking for a hydraulic oil leak at the backhoe control valve..He pulled the shrouding around the backhoe valve up and started the engine...Well , the backhoe was pivoted to the side so the machine could be backed up to the work benches....This machine started and proceded to put down pressure on the backhoe bucket . Needless to say , "Scooter" did the walk inside the cab..I was outside talking to a customer when I heard the crashing noise..When I saw the hoe , the machine was lying on it's side..It smashed into a wooden work table and took out some side glass and lights..The only damage....It shook up " Scooter" pretty bad when it started to move , he didn't think to shut off the key....10 minutes later with a 590-D excavator , we were able to right the machine...So , Don't take anything for granted..Be safe , If you have a hillside next to a pond , you will have to take into account for soft ground , high center of gravity , plus other variables..A friend of mine recently bought an old Case tractor with a boom mower. [ former county roadside mower].With this tractor he can mow around ponds , behind fences....
