The only engines I have tore into that looked like that, were getting coolant in the oil, also great for breaking valve springs. The ones I tore into that looked like this weren't Olivers, but they had coolant leaks around the sleeves. I would sure check out number 1 as when the cylinders are that clean, they usually are burning coolant. My experience was cracks in heads or blocks when only on one cylinder, could get lucky and just be a head gasket, but sure worth a close look. Good luck, Bob
