Sorry Gary, no. That is for cutting. This unit has a small jig that the earth and power cables hook up to. You bring the two carbon rods together and they form an arc. Quite good for heating steel for bending etc. Can be used for other work, not a substitute for oxy/acet, but quite handy anyway. The same system was used in the old arc lamps used in spotlights during the war. Thanks anyway, Rex
