I think it would probably work. Grandpa used to use a endgate for spreading fertilizer. Only thing is our good old friend rust. Pretty sure it would seize everything up after the first time. Lots of small parts in those meters. The more modern units for this are a lot simplier and more suited to the purpose for which they were built. Think ones that were mentioned are around $200 to $300 jt
