Will road salt flow through an endgate seeder? It won't have to be spread very wide. I'm trying to think up a salt spreader to supplement the snowplow truck at work. Thanks for any help.

I think it would probably work. Grandpa used to use a endgate for spreading fertilizer. Only thing is our good old friend rust. Pretty sure it would seize everything up after the first time.

Lots of small parts in those meters. The more modern units for this are a lot simplier and more suited to the purpose for which they were built. Think ones that were mentioned are around $200 to $300

Deep, when I used to plow snow we just used a good 50-80# walk behind spreader. We used the ones with plastic wheels so we could put hex head self tapping screws in for traction on ice. Around 60-80 bucks for one of these. They where easy to load, just pull a bag of salt to the tailgate and cut it open and the salt just empties right into the spreader. pretty quick unless you have to salt a huge lot or a long road. VERY cost effective, much less than a commercial spreader and you don't have to climb up in the truck to reload the hopper. If you rinse them off after each use they'll last 2-3 years.

I've got a walk-behind one for the sidewalks, but I've quite a bit of raods at the campground where I work. I'm looking for something I can put in the dumptruck's bed for winter use. Thank you though.

Forgot to say, putting screws in the plastic wheels is a really great idea. Dont think it would work so hot with pneumatic rubber tires however : )

Don't know about the end gate seeder, but Tractor Supply, Northern Tool, etc. all sell a 12V powered broadcast spreader in 2 or 3 sizes that oughta work for ya. Spread width is adjustable on em too.

Beleive me, I'd love to buy one of them, but the budget is a wee bit tight. I'm hoping to build something for 50 bucks or so. Thanks.
