Hi. I have one of these also, and it also had a whining pump and slow hydraulics. The filter is in the transmission case towards the rear on the left side. It has a rounded football shaped cover with two bolts on the 'points' of the football. It's around 2 inches long. It's spring loaded, the spring holding in the filter. It appears to be a permanent washable screen type filter. I washed mine in gasoline and replaced it, but it plugged up again very shortly, although it was clean and the fluid was clean. It seems like the filter media behind the screen outer portion is swollen up and won't let hydraulic fluid through. Hope this helps. By the way, do you know where to get a new one?
