I want to plant Alfalfa and a Clover mix around my house. I leveled the ground around my house (about 3 acres) hauled in soil from another part of the farm, and need to improve the top soil with a cover crop. This soil is very depleted, dries out and basically is a pile of dust now. The soil packs when it gets water. I am not looking for a crop of it. So in drier conditions in eastern Wa what would be a good variety of Alfalfa and Clover. I can irrigate this but would perfer a low water requirment variety. Dryland wheat is raised round here and the soil down under retains winter moisture well throughout the summer.

This article will focus on what I encountered and what I did to bring the 1951 NEAR DEATH Farmall H back to life.
