Over the last five years I have had many adventures trying to mow the loosestrife in a boulder-strewn meadow. This year the plant hasn't been a problem because of the invasion of the beetles brought in from Europe to prey on it. Members of the Ministry of Natural Resources work crew I had at the farm this spring proudly told me that "We got to meet the Beetles." Last summer they released a large number of them at Crosby, Ontario, about a mile west of our property. Mind you every time I try to eat a raspberry from the garden I have to shoo a few of these critters off it. But there are only widely scattered clumps of loosestrife this year, and I guess that is good.
