First off if the pump hasn't been changed in quite a while, and it's out on the bench, replace it. New screen on it too. When you tap into the pump power wire and switch the key on 20 times does the test light come on 20 times? Someone else will hopefully correct me on this but it seems the pump on those is powered straight from the ecm. If you're lucky I'll be wrong and there will be a relay between. My Mitchell manuals are all stored away so I don't have schematics handy.
