O/T log cabin house

Anybody out there own one. Pros and cons, maintenance,reliability. I am getting close to retirement and I will be moving out of the clogged area that is around me now and moving to a much less populated area. The area I have been looking at is in the mountains and there are many new and used log homes for sale,some in isolated areas. Should I consider the log home or buy a piece of land and build a regular house with siding or brick. I know the realitors will tell you anything to get a sale. Thats why I'm asking someone with hands on experience.
