John T has it about right - compromise antennas provide compromised results. You might try one of those disk shaped amplified antennas, I have heard that some home owners are very happy with theirs. HOWEVER: Location, Location, Location! Try for the highest spot on the campground. (unfortunately around here, the campgrounds tend to be lowest elevations - around lakes and rivers.) You also might try a telescoping antenna mast to get whatever antenna you are using above the tree line, if possible. Have you thought of renting a DVD or two? Reception on them is usually very good!
