In my opinion the only way to go if you are TV Addicted is with Direct TV or Dish Network.Aside from those choose a Campground that is Cable Wired. The only time we use our Roof Antenna is when we are parked near a big City and do not want to set up the Dish for a one night stay. Sat.TV works great for Boondocking. Our Generator is almost soundless so it is enjoyable to pull off the road somewhere and set up and have all the creature comforts a Sat TV provides.

Radio Shack for the amplifed round unit that can be rotated. As previously stated get the antenna high and the connections clean and dry. A length of pipe can be carried on the roof of the RV and tipped up with the antenna attached to the top. Then again if you just want to watch tv, stay at home and watch from there. Last time out camping at a beautiful area with lots to do. What do I see but an entire extended family lined up like crows perched on chairs & tables. They were ignorong the campfire, the evening sounds, the fresh air etc. Instead they were all staring at a 14" TV/VCR with tinny sound and some violent movie.

I don't own a RV, but most of the folks I know who do own one have had to go with a satellite dish system. I used to get very good reception with an antennae right here where in the house, I get absolutely nothing now.

Lloyd, Ive had RV's over 30 years and none got the best TV reception on those crank up antennas but Im usually tryin to get away from all that stuff n never watched it much anyway. Usually the problem Ive found in poor reception is the connector or coax plug or whatever is up top where the lead in wire/coax connected to the antenna is corroded or bad. Of course, the rotator has to work to "point" at the station but even if all is well unless youre relatively close to a transmitting station, its not all that great cuz rememebr those RV antennas arent nearly as big (not as much signal gain) as a regular residentisl type antenna. As far as amplifiers, its still "garbage in equals garbage out" if the signal to noise ratio is poor (like far from a station or a weak antenna or poor connection) they are simply gonna amplify BOTH the signal and noise and dont yield much improvement in picture quality.

John T has it about right - compromise antennas provide compromised results. You might try one of those disk shaped amplified antennas, I have heard that some home owners are very happy with theirs. HOWEVER: Location, Location, Location! Try for the highest spot on the campground. (unfortunately around here, the campgrounds tend to be lowest elevations - around lakes and rivers.) You also might try a telescoping antenna mast to get whatever antenna you are using above the tree line, if possible. Have you thought of renting a DVD or two? Reception on them is usually very good!
