My neighbor was pulling a four bottom plow down the road without the top link on using the plow's trailer wheel to support the plow. One of the plow s caught on a railroad track and the tractor instantly rolled back over crushing him to death. This happened nearly 30 years ago but it still sticks with me. Using all 3 points on the hitch is much safer than one or two points. The top link helps keep the tractor from going all the way over. Hitching below the axle and speed are even more critical. Many people die every year from roll over due to improper hitching mostly from hitching to high, but a few get it every year from using a chain for a top link or no top link at all. In many cases a low hp tractor will stall instead of roll back, but a higher hp tractor will raise up past the point of no return in just .75 seconds (according to John Deere data) The bottom line is play it safe!!
