I've had trouble last year with raccoons and my pens. At first they went thru the thin side wire I had.. So I put some real stiff hardware cloth up on the sides and that stopped them for a while, but then they found that a few of my large chicken pens only had plastic 'avairy' netting on the top to keep the hawks out, so they climbed the wall and chewed thru the top. Finally added wire mesh to the top and have had no more losses. Add to that That i pretty much try to shoot any critter taking my livestock.. that tends to permanently stop them as well.

For those with possum problems, if you are trying to keep them out of flower beds and hedges, go get a 2$ bag of blood meal, and sprinkle it around your flower beds and especially where they are digging. Hold your breath and use gloves... stuff smells like a dead cow.. er.. well.. I guess it's made from cows blood.. so that's why! ( great nitrogen source too. ) I've tried this one and it works. Had to treat my MIL's place as the possum were marchin in in droves to root hru her flower beds nightly.. after the application.. never seen evidence of them again..
