I had the same problem before Christmas and cured it by doing 3 things installed and used adaware as mentioned earlier. Then and this is important I pulled the telephone line from the wall and replugged it in to get and good conection I know do this once a week. I also reinstalled Windows XP full instalation this fixed the situation. The memory seemed to be full and no extra left for opperating. Some of the programs needed to be reinstalled but the computer went back to normal opperation. This is not very technical but it worked I had started looking for a new computer. LOL Marty
