Channel and angle trailers are lighter, but they are not better. Tubing, because of it symmetry, is far more dimensionally stable, and tends to flex with the load. A good trailer frame is also a good spring, angle and channel tend to be too stiff and will kink and fail when overloaded. This is especially true when you have a channel tongue welded under an angle frame. Where does it bend or crack? Before and after the section where the two are joined. The best trailers have an integral frame-tongue design of either tube or I-beam. The load is transferred through the beam evenly on the same axis. Take a look at any REAL trailer, and this will make sense. Of course a tilt-top trailer doesn't follow this design, it's function is different. It may be a little heavier, and cost a little more, but you have the piece of mind that you are operating a solid, safe vehicle.
