It's absolutely possible. The sediment bowl is good enough alone to filter out dirt and other crap. They have a screen in them that keeps the big chunks out, and then the smaller particles go to the bottom of the bowl,while the clean gas goes out the top and to the carb. Like Old says, if it's an auto type filter, it's made to have a pump pushing fuel through it, not being gravity fed like a tractor. If it ran fine before, the first thing I would do would be to remove the filter. Donovan from Wisconsin
