I don't know about GM owning any of Fiat. The last I heard, Fiat was the largest privately held company in Italy. From what I've read, Fiat is set up as a parent company, which holds controling interest in a variety of satelite companies. Case NewHolland Global (CNH) is one of many satelites, which is publically traded. The Ford/NewHolland timeline started with Ford Tractor Operations purchase of NewHolland from the Sperry corporation in Sept '85, with the further purchase of Versatile in '87. Fiat then aquired 80% of Ford/NewHolland in 1990, with an option to purchase the final 20% within 4 years, which they did. They had rights to use the FORD name for 10 years, and the Ford logo (script) for 5 years. In 1999 Fiat reached an aggreement with Tennco to purchase Tennco's interest in CaseIH, which was approximately 71% of Case Corp's outstanding shares. There is a diverse mixture of other ag and industrial brands that have been swallowed whole by Fiat both before and since the Ford buyout, and have mostly operated under their own old brand names since. Anyhow, that's a rough rundown....... Rod
