DOT rules and us farmers

Off topic here but just read an article in our Farmers Exchange about the DOT rules we farmers are exempt from. The biggest one I am trying to check out is the fuel issue. I have always been told that we had to run the green taxed fuel but the article which was taken from a Purdue University article said we could use the red untaxed fuel. So before running the red stuff I am trying to find out the truth. Anyone know for absolute sure? Would save a bundle for all of us. Thanks for any help. Oh, I can't seem to open the link for the Purdue article but will post it for ya'll to read if for yourself. Scroll down I think it is article 68.
