Most of the small to med existing family farms are operated on average. By people well into their 50's. Supply of nubile young maidens is drying up. Plus they have seen enough of their parents long hard work for little income & security. Farming…hmm …no.
The Mega Corporate Farms have either. Workers whose daughters no part of insecurity, long hours, hard work, no thanks and near poverty. Or the daughters of Mega Farm owners/ business managers are looking for the life style they are accustomed to or better. Why marry a peasant?
The rural farm population has dwindled to about 1-2% of the country’s population. Few families now with 800 to 8000 acres farms vs. the era of 80 acre farms.
I don't see rural life glamorized in the media unless it's horses or vineyards. TV, Movies, video games and print are powerful influences molding the minds of the young. Even the adults believe the crap if they hear it often enough.
Unless you win the lottery. No youngster is starting out with nothing at age 17 and be able to support a family in comfort by age 30 farming. Unless the crops are less than legal. May have a chance if you inherit a viable operation. And not run it into the ground.
Unless you obtain an upper middle class income and live on a rural estate. A newlywed country wife on the farm is rare indeed.
Go make some $$$ first. Can’t live on love.
