I'm just venting, but I am a 22 year old farm kid raised on a dairy farm in MN, and I have always wanted to share my life with a girl that was from the same back ground, or darn near it. Is it just me, or all the good dairy girls gone?? I guess the horse girls were a little different when it came to certain issues, not to bring anyone's wife or girlfriend down, just my two cents...Oh well, just my ramblings anyways....I wish there were such things as dating sites for farm kids alone, since about every other interest does exsist. Anyone agree with me or am I crazy?

Word to the wise, from someone who has been there, stop looking. Seriously, focus on you, making the most you can of your chosen vocation when the time is right they will find you. Some 16 years ago I was in your shoes, after a string of heart aches and heart breaks I quit looking. Seriously quit, made a promise to myself that I would be nice, charming, friendly, and totally independent; and that I would NEVER, EVER ask another girl out (and I didnt, they would have to ask me (and they did)). It worked, within 6 months they were absolutely worrying me to death. I'm not bragging, it all in the attitude. If you are determined and looking, you wont find, stop and when the time is right you will. Eleven years now, been married to my dream girl. Does she share my every day interests on the farm, no, but thats ok. She is a wonderful wife, a fantastic mother, and I thank God every night for her (almost lost her to cancer this winter, made me really appreciate what a blessing she is).

I am with Kyhayman. I went through High School completely independant and not dating. Went to college and thought I HAD to find a woman. I was miserable, and I didnt find her. I got out of college and became content being single. I settled down and started working with Dad on the farm part time. I got my Enginnering career on solid ground, and I bought a house. Low and behold the same time I buy a house a woman comes into my life. I wasnt looking, it just kinda happened...
A couple things to remember. Young girls value good looks and cool guys. When they get into their mid twentys they start thinking about real life and having a family. Thats when it pays off for all the hard working "normal" guys. Also, a farm girl doesnt always stay a farm girl. My mom was a farm girl. I have NEVER seen her on a tractor or in the barn. My girlfriend was raised in the city. She is allergic to almost every animal, but she LOVES cattle because they are one of the few animals she isnt allergic to. Ask me 5 years ago if I would date a girl who was raised in the city and I would say no, now look at me today. As the old saying goes " be careful what you wish for."

When I graduated high school, I figured the best reason to go to college was to find a girlfriend(hopefully wife). I was advised that the animal science department at most schools have a large percentage of females. As of yet I have been unlucky, but things are looking up. As far as dairy wives, there are just plain out no small dairies left. In my county, I think we are down to less than 4 or 5. That makes it that much harder to find someone with your interest. Most of the girls I knew in high school that were from a farm, had no interest in farming what so ever. They would show up at the fair show the animal there fathers had raised and go home. That was the extent of there interest in farming. It seems that it will be an up hill battle to find anything close to what you and I want. GOODLUCK

I met my wife 22 years ago on a blind date, and our 21st anniversary is coming up. She's a city girl and swore off tractors completely when she put the County into the drive shed wall. She is super intelligent, honest, a super mother to our two boys, sings like an angel in the shower, a loving person, and she's a LADY. I thank the Lord for my blessings every day. Also the most beautiful green eyes in the world. On the other hand, I used to work with a woman who externally had it all. She was gorgeous, and has a figure that would stop traffic, also very friendly(and I do mean friendly, NOT promiscuous), but it was all about her hair, her nails, her boots, her car, and money, money, money. She also lives with an absolute thug, was a teenage mother in high school, and has no end of family problems. I was 31 when I met my wife and beginning to lose hope I would meet anyone, but it does happen. Just don't set standards for yourself or more importantly her that you or she can't meet. There will have to be compromises. Best of luck.

i used to think the same thing myself, until i met my wife. she spent her whole life growing up in the city and never had the chance to step foot on a farm, even though that's what she yearned for. she was the nicest and most careing girl i'd ever met and wanted to learn everything she could. the bonus was her family was from SD so after a few trips with them out here it wasn't long and i up and left our WI farm because of urban sprawl and now i'm living my dream, i have my own farm and a great wife that never gives up and loves every second of it. she can drive tractor, work cattle and ride horses with the best of them, and she has more heart than any other farm girl i've ever met! 8 years ago she had never set foot on a farm. we are both 25 now 8') the gal you're looking for doesn't have to be country to be country. good luck and be patient, as others have said, she will find you!

They can be found - I was in my 30's, but found one. She isn't from the farm, but can plow better than me now.....

Friend of mine is kinda following the same path right now, similar deal. She'll be the housewife type, mine would rather be operating a tractor than a stove... ;)

Don't limit yourself to someone 'just like you' but find someone that is interested in you (& the other way around) and you know - it's kinda fun to teach & learn. Shared interests go farther than shared backgrounds. Don't be afraid of a level-headed city gal - tho hard to find I understand. :)

I don't know where you are at, but if you get a copy of the weekly "Farm Forum" out of Aberdeen, SD, there is a section just devoted to singles. I just checked a back issue, and here's a sample ad: "SWF 22, 5'10", slim build, works on farm, enjoys country life, playing cards, dining out, seeking a compatible SWM 21-31 who has a farming background."
Good Luck ☺☺☺

Re: farm girls- NOT horse girls- are there any lef in reply to farmkid, 04-06-2005 17:43:56
Here's a topic that's near and dear to my heart right now. (I'll explain in a minute why)

I met my wife while in line at a grain elevator. She was there with her dad. I was hauling corn for my father. We lived 125 miles apart at that time. I could have been a million miles for all we cared, we KNEW we would be married 5 minutes after we met. NO JOKE....

She grew up on a small farm in central Kentucky. (Tobacco/corn/scrawny cows) I grew up on a dairy farm in southern Indiana. We have always been a perfect match. It does happen.

Most of my (farm) friends ended up marrying girls that grew up in town, or that had little interest in farming. Some adjusted to farm life, some didn't. It's a crapshoot at best.

My son, who is gradually taking his spot in the family farm, married a young lady who probably never SAW a farm until she met Jason. She's still not real fond of SOME parts of the life, but when they had the first of their two children, she started taking interest in the "rural lifestyle"...Funny how that all works. My wife is teaching her to can, garden, and even planning on starting to teach her the basics of running a combine this fall. (My wife is the designated combine operator around here)

Now the part about why I'm so interested in this topic.... I have a 24 year old daughter, who HATED the prospect of living her life close to a farm. She couldn't wait until the first opportunity to get away from here. She ended up marrying this "Nancy" of a "man/boy?" who wouldn't get his hands dirty for love nor money. (He wouln't back down from a crack pipe though) Well....Now that's over with.... My daughter has 3 kids and no life... She's regretting NOT staying with boys that grew up like her.

I hate to say "I told you so, BUT..... ....."

OK.... Off that soap box...

One thing I've found over the years (with myself AND with others... Don't set a "standard" for a future mate. When you meet that person, it'll just happen, and all the prerequisites will go out the window. Yep! It'd be great if you can find a girl that grew up on a farm, has her own tractor, and loves feeding cows in the wintertime, but just be thankfull if you find one that loves you for what you are... Sometimes that's as good as it gets.

Got my rural gal fifty years ago and I ain't sorry. Take a look at the National Convention of The Future Farmers of America on ch 9409 on dish network. There are some serious farm babes in the
F.F.A. When you get one, make a date to take her to church with you. If she won't go, drop her and go on to the next. Compatibility makes less problems later on. Good luck. Ed

Sweet Heart. You know all there is to know. You steam open my letters, put a password recording program on the computers, check all my clothes pockets, check the vehicles for everything, call me at work at random times, check my sent & received e-mails, check the internet cookies. Dear you even had me neutered for your Christmas present last Dec 21st. Dear you even weigh me every month and adjust my rations accordingly. And I only spend the money you give me from my paycheque. I wash the dishes, wash the laundry, sweep the floors, do the yard and barn work. You even let me sleep in the same bed. If you are feeling cold in the winter time when the power is out and the electric blanket doesn't work. And you get a new vehicle every couple of years. The next vacation trip you wanted is coming soon. Please send me a postcard from Mexico when you are there with your friends. I'm sorry I didn't know Miss Grundy was really a Miss and not the Archie comics character. And you always let me have the last two words, "yes dear".

There are some girls that look like horses and some that like horses, but farm girls....hmmmmm thats a tuffy. My definition of a farm girl is a woman that will split firewood, shovel snow, cut the grass, paint the house and after a long hard days work can take a shower and look like a million bucks and be good in the sack. I havent found one yet to do all these things, my wife sure isnt like I described. Oh well.

An attractive thing about horses is they don't need to be milked 7 days a week! And when you make some free time, you can take them with you. Regarding the dating scene- check with the Dairy Star magazine- lately they've been running personal ads. Published by the Sauk Centre Herald. With any luck at all, soon, someone will be moo-ning over you.

You know I wasn't going to tell the young lads this but I've had a couple of "beverages" before retiring after an afternoon shift in the reactor building. Horse girls ride better and dairy girls know about having good udders. Chicken farmer girls and clucking, never mind I haven't had that many say anything about that. Beefy girls, well they need loving too. Pig girls, well that takes guts but they need loving as well. Vegetable farmer's daughters..... ..... . oh never mind. You should be able to figure that one out by now.

Most of the small to med existing family farms are operated on average. By people well into their 50's. Supply of nubile young maidens is drying up. Plus they have seen enough of their parents long hard work for little income & security. Farming…hmm …no. The Mega Corporate Farms have either. Workers whose daughters no part of insecurity, long hours, hard work, no thanks and near poverty. Or the daughters of Mega Farm owners/ business managers are looking for the life style they are accustomed to or better. Why marry a peasant? The rural farm population has dwindled to about 1-2% of the country’s population. Few families now with 800 to 8000 acres farms vs. the era of 80 acre farms. I don't see rural life glamorized in the media unless it's horses or vineyards. TV, Movies, video games and print are powerful influences molding the minds of the young. Even the adults believe the crap if they hear it often enough. Unless you win the lottery. No youngster is starting out with nothing at age 17 and be able to support a family in comfort by age 30 farming. Unless the crops are less than legal. May have a chance if you inherit a viable operation. And not run it into the ground. Unless you obtain an upper middle class income and live on a rural estate. A newlywed country wife on the farm is rare indeed. Go make some $$$ first. Can’t live on love.

I work with a fine young lady who originally intended to be a dairy farmer (only child). She was persuaded by her father to get an Mechanical Engineering degree. Too bad I'm about the same age as her father. Smart, considerate, hard working and just darn nice to be around. One picayune fault, she really likes cats. Don't worry I am not going to try to be a matchmaker. They exist and are also looking, but don't expect to find them in a bar.

Cats outside in the barn are just fine. Just not in the house. Cat's tend to be too independent and self-serving for my tastes. The self-serving and independent slots are already filled in this house. Dogs are better outside also, but sometimes you need to compromise for man's best friend.
