Hugh I really dont know why you have such a poor opinion of the german diesel engines. We had a 706 and 826 and over a couple of decades and many many hours never did anything more serious than pull the injectors and have them checked. These tractors were never primary tillage tractors but did alot of light work like planting and chore work. The 706 was bought by a neighbor when we traded it off and he is still using it today. We had the D282 motor in a 560 and a 715 combine and really felt the german diesel was a big improvment. The combine got a overhaul and the 560 should have. Traded the 706 for a 1466 and the 826 for a 1086 and there was nothing wrong with either tractor just needed more power.
I am sure the 360 engine was better but compared to deeres engines the german diesel was not bad. Talk about no torque, jump in a 4630 or 4640 sometime. We just never had any trouble with those german diesels and around here they were know to be very reliable and economical.
